2.5 Dullest Rivette film I've ever seen. Gone the playfulness, the humor, the ever shifting storyline and territory filled with surprises, this is extremely dreary, meaningless, repetitive for its four hour runtime. The entire rehearsal sequences over and over bears no symbolic parallelism whatsoever and while this exhausting feeling of dragging along may be the point of Rivette's experimentation I feel it to be deeply self-indulgent. And spare me the post-68 melancholia reading --- the mood is of course there, it never automatically makes portraying insufferable bourgeois pettiness an amazing political allegory of sorts.
